Last week the staff of Rescue Task Force (RTF) staff and volunteers taught their new partner staff from World Emergency Relief how to pack backpacks. The backpacks were part of the Happy Hearts for Hurting Heroes program that Rescue Task Force runs. The backpacks are for severely wounded military who return stateside to military hospitals with nothing. The backpacks have essentials such as toiletries, socks, sandals, and some fun things such as Nintendo’s, playing cards and music. There is also a phone and phone cards to allow service persons to get in touch with friends and families. The average cost of a backpack is $750.
Gary Becks, CEO of Rescue Task Force was a Corpsman with the Marines during the Vietnam War, so he is well aware of the condition and needs of these returning vets.
Sponsorship opportunities for the backpacks are available to Corporations, or service clubs, and individual donations are always welcome. For more information or to donate go to rescuetaskforce.org or phone Andrea Stone at 760-930-8001.
